Charities
And social enterprises
We’ve worked with many charities and social enterprises over the years in various capacities, and wanted to highlight the some of the important work being done in our community and further afield.
Sistah Space is a Hackney-based organisation that offers vital support to women and girls of African heritage who have experienced domestic or sexual abuse, or who have lost a loved one to domestic violence.
In 2021 they opened the Sistah Space Shop on Ashwin Street in Dalston, where they work hard to make new, good quality items accessibly and affordable while fundraising for their support services.
Many of our virtual events in 2021 have raised donations for Sistah Space, with some chairpersons and publishers even making contributions of their own.
Hackney Migrant Centre offers vital support and assistance to migrants on immigration, welfare or health issues, regardless of immigration status, nationality or current place of residence.
Proceeds from sales of books in our Borders list are donated to HMC.
Body andSoul is a long-running and innovative charity that provides support for those who have experience childhood adversity through a community-based and trauma informed approach.
Since launching in 1996 to bridge the gap in support services for children affected by HIV, Body & Soul has since grown to provide a compassionate and evidence-based system of whole-person support for anyone whose life has been fragmented by trauma.
Headway East London supports people affected by brain injury, and provides a range of specialist services to survivors and their families across 13 London boroughs.
At the heart of their support work is their day service held at Headway House in Hackney. This unique community venue helps people make the most of their skills, abilities and interests via a lunch club, art studio, writing group, and choir.
